How long will it take to lay my new floor?

Depending on the circumstances, we can usually lay flooring in an average Lounge/dining, kitchen and hallway in one day; the same house plus 4 bedrooms would probably take 2 days.

Can I get my new floor wet?

All flooring is designed to cope with reasonable spills and splashes; the water will evaporate before any damage is done. However, excessive water and prolonged contact may damage your floor, as would any other flooring option be damaged. We recommend a “damp” mop approach when cleaning your floor, and do not recommend the use of steam mops on any but a few special laminate floors.

Will my new floor change colour?

Probably, yes, but not always. No floor is light “fast.” The tannin in the wood will “oxidise” when exposed to UV light; the degree of change will depend on the species and the location. Laminate floors are less susceptible to light fading and change, and bamboo is also very resistant to colour change.

What about Stiletto High Heels?

High heels concentrate a person’s weight on a small point (estimate: 60kg person = approximately 150kg per square centimetre when taking a normal step). This kind of force can damage many types of flooring, fracturing ceramic tiles and perforating vinyl, as well as denting timber floors. While high heels in good condition may not damage bamboo floors, we recommend a ‘no high heel’ policy where practical.

Which timber is the hardest?

Timbers dent resistance is measured on the Janka Scale. The higher the number, the better the resistance to denting. However when comparing the most and least indentation resistant species, you are really comparing the indentation in fractions of a millimetre. Aspects like warranty, joining system, surface coating, level of nested lengths etc are most often much more important!

How many metres can be installed before I have to use an expansion trim?

More important than the measurement in running metres is the shape of the floor and the site conditions. Our floors can most often be installed over large areas without expansion trims through the middle of the floor but multi-room installations or installations in areas of high relative humidity will most often require in-floor expansion trims. What do I need to comply with when installing in multi-storey apartments?

You need to comply with the Impact Isolation requirements (how easily impact sound travels through a wall or floor. Impact sound is generated by sources such as dryers, washing machines and heeled shoes on a wooden floor.) as prescribed by the Building Code of Australia (Class 2-9 Buildings). The requirement is that you achieve an Ln,w+Ci less than 62. Two things need to be remembered here. Firstly, every construction is different in terms of subfloor thickness, ceiling type, insulation level etc. The second thing to remember is that we can access numerous tests and can provide data to satisfy most owners, corporations or acoustic engineers.
