Timber flooring

Engineered timber flooring comes in panels that are fitted together to create a plate of flooring that is laid on top of a 2mm underlay.

The underlay is not designed to make the floor feel soft & spongy - it is there to absorb any minor irregularities in the subflloor and to act as a vapour and sound barrier.

The panels are manufactured using precision machinery; the top or "Dress" layer (usually 4mm thick); the core layer (8mm); and a backing layer (2mm), with a tongue & groove or lock profile on the edge, and then sanded & coated with 6 coats of finish, applied in the factory, to create a flooring that is extremely dimensionally stable (doesn't warp or twist), can be laid immediately and is as re-sand-able as conventional timber flooring.

Engineered timber flooring can be laid over any sound, hard and level subfloor, including concrete, timber, particle board, ceramic tiles, lino or cork.

Engineered timber flooring can also be glued and secret nailed to some subfloors.

Engineered timber is available in a wide range of species, including Australian managed-forest hardwood species such as Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Sydney Blue Gum, Tas Oak, Jarrah etc, as well as plantation sourced species like Kempas, Merbeau, Nyotah, American Oak and Hevea.

Engineered timber flooring is available in 3 different formats:

  • 1 strip/single plank (130mm to 180mm wide, approx 2m long), a modern look
  • 2 strip (180mm wide; divided down the middle, staves 600mm - 1200mm long) to create a more traditional floorboard style
  • 3 strip (180mm wide; divided into 3 strips; staves approx 300mm long) to create a random block parketry effect.
